I'm addicted to Kombucha, it's been my new crack since the the new year started. I'm a devotee to all the benefits of Kombucha & I sip on the damn stuff dutifully. I'll bet you $5 that you'll catch me w/ Kombucha on hand wherever I go.

Kombucha tea is brewed from an immersion of green or black tea, sugar, and the Kombucha mushroom. During the brewing process, the yeasts break down the sugar and fuse with the tea to form potent minerals, vitamins, & anti-oxidants that work to fight diabetes, wrinkles, digestive problems, support for the immune system. I'm just being honest, it doesn't smell that great & you do not want it to 'explode' and be all over your clothes. Just sayin, learn from my mistake! This stuff is almost $3 a pop, quite an expensive habit for a kombucha crack whore like myself.

I'm not really into this dude Miles Fisher's voice, his downgraded Tom Cruise look, & the botching of a great Talking Heads song, but I love this video. News: I'm starting from scratch, single, just moved into a new apartment, focusing on my career, education, dreams, goals, & life (aka 'doing ME'). This video is genius, I feel as if this video kinda represents my lifestyle right now. I'm doin' it real creeper on some American Psycho shit with chainsaws/axes/knives, singing/working out/dancing at my new spot, face peel masks, pills in my champagne, video cameras, menageries, all on some grown business woman type shit (passin' out business cards & shit). Cattiness is something no one ever wants to be accused of doing. But the reality is, at one time or another you’ve probably engaged in it, and most likely, you’ll do it again. This trait can include any number of unfortunate behaviors from not saying what we really intend to say, to saying things in a harsh tone of voice. It also includes gossiping, cynical remarks, and on a grander scale, outright rudeness. Cattiness can stand in the way of marketing your business since what you say and how you say it is critical in building rapport with potential clients and customers. Think about how you come across to the people you interact with on a daily basis. Check in with your attitude and behavior to make sure you are coming from your best place at all times.

1. Always tell the truth. Your word is one of the strongest tools for building outstanding relationships with your clients and customers. It starts from the first moment that you decide to open your business and it carries forward throughout the years. Telling the truth not only about who you are, but also about your products and services, is essential to building a strong foundation for a successful business. It is through honesty that you build confidence and trust in the hearts and minds of those who do business with you. These are the qualities that help to maintain your current clients and which lead them to make referrals to you. It takes only a moment of dishonesty to destroy your reputation and credibility. Rise above the crowd – tell the truth, always, and you’ll have your customers telling everyone about you!

2. Come from a place of integrity. One of the best ways to rise above catty behavior is to make integrity your central “come from” place when you deal with others. Integrity is about core honesty. When you come from a place of being fully integrated in your thoughts and actions, you are operating from a place of integrity. This gives others a sense of confidence in you – that you are predictable and consistent. After all, people like to do business with those who they know, like, and trust. By coming from a place of integrity you’ll be just that person.

3. Have empathy for others. Individuals who have empathy don’t have a place in their hearts to be mean-spirited towards others. They understand that life holds challenges enough for all and that they have no right to add to another person’s burden. To have empathy for others, we must have it for ourselves. For those who have not learned that important life lesson, they can only give away what they have inside of themselves. For those who have empathy, there is no place for catty behavior to enter the picture. They interact with others only from a place of love and understanding.

4. Let go of the need for power. Catty behavior typically manifests when someone needs to come from a place of power. In order to feel complete, a catty person must make others feel incomplete. Rather than coming from a place of competition with others, try coming from a place of cooperation. Appreciate the gifts and talents that others have to offer. Recognize that there is plenty for all and that there is no winner or loser. Instead, everyone can be a winner. One is powerful because it is a chosen state of mind, not something gained at the expense of others.

5. Let go of the need for control. Some people engage in catty behavior when they possess a strong need for control, a behavior deeply rooted in fear. Closely aligned with the need for power, these folks want to manipulate the thoughts and actions of others for their personal gain. And, this is done by saying and doing things to intimidate or coerce. Letting go of the need for control will actually allow you to enjoy life by decreasing stress levels. The reality is that nothing can be controlled in life except for one’s response to it.

6. Stop gossiping. “Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people.” (Unknown) Gossiping is one of the most catty of behaviors. Not only is it destructive to others but it is also a complete waste of one’s own lifetime. You might think you’re not gossiping because you only say great things about others. The truth is that anytime you are discussing someone other than yourself, whether good news or bad, you are engaging in gossip. Why not engage in discussions about great ideas, instead? Life is made of only one thing – time. Be careful how you spend it.

7. Elevate others. One of the ways to rise above catty behavior is to hold others in the highest regard. By adopting a mindset of respecting everyone, you are showing respect for yourself as well. Want more for others than you want for yourself. Come from a place of providing service to others. Strange as it may seem, this attitude will bring more benefits to you than you could possibly imagine.

8. Re-language your life. Those who refuse to engage in catty behavior watch the thoughts they think and the words they utter. Studies have shown that negative words actually emanate a lower energy than positive words. Nasty, negative, or mean-spirited words or thoughts have no place in the heads and hearts of the highly evolved. Engage in cooperative, kind, friendly interactions that build up others and benefit all. Watch the thoughts you think and the words you utter. These things speak volumes about who you are and how others perceive you.

9. Stop competing. Catty behavior often comes shining through when one adopts a mindset of competition. Competitive people think there must always be a winner and a loser. Even a simple conversation can be converted into a competition about who knows more or who is better. Competition, nowadays, is often seen as childish and immature. Highly evolved people choose to come from a place of cooperation. They are confident in their beliefs, yet can understand and empathize with others who might disagree.

10. Own your own stuff. Catty people do not take responsibility for their life outcomes. Much of their unfortunate behavior towards others is the manifestation of anger, internal resentment and low self-esteem. The ill will they feel inside is often unleashed upon unknowing others in the form of negative comments, cynicism, and rudeness. People who rise above catty behavior own their own stuff. They take personal responsibility for their actions and understand that everyone (including themselves) is impacted by what they think, say, and do.

Alexander Edwards (AE ) is an extremely talented, motivated rapper from Oakland, California. Here's his story:

How did it first start for Alexander Edwards?

Growing up, I was very observant. I would observe how girls my age and older would respond to me, as if I had a natural quality women respond to. That made me popular amongst my friends growing up. Even my older cousins who were successful in the streets gave me extra attention and love. It made my friends and peers look up to me. Going to catholic school, they pumped God and religion a lot. When my friends wanted to be Michael Jordan, I was idolizing Jesus. With no father figure it made me look at God as my father. I wanted my existence to be more meaningful. At a young age I knew it was my destiny to be famous and followed, and I just wanted to be famous for leading a nation. I never wanted it to be all about me, but more about WE. I noticed my power of influence, and being that the voice is a primitive form of communication, its only right i fulfill my prophecy as a rapper. But when it's all said and done. The world too will see it's much more.

Where were you born, where did you grow up?

I was born in Oakland, California. I grew up runnin the streets. Pickin' up game, embodying my essence. At 15, I moved to LA on my own, me and my niggas chasin' our dream. Sleepin' on couches, floors, whatever. I bleed California.

Do you remember your earliest exposure to music?

Kriss kross, TLC, Richie Rich, Celly Cell, E-40 & the click, Digital Underground, Naughty by nature. Vein 6/7 yrs old hangin' wit my older cousins who made a life in the streets, I was exposed to all the fly street shit.

What kind of musical influences shaped your vision as a musician?

It wasn't until I got a little older and was exposed to Tupac when I identified with my destiny. I answered all my questions like why was I loved & so adored, fearless, and outspoken. I took pride in not only being a soldier, but being articulate and obtaining knowledge. Through Pacs music I knew he was bein used by God, to lead and empower, and when his mission was complete, God will call my number and I'll be ready.

As far as building a name for yourself in music, what has the journey been like so far?

It's been a crazy ride. Talent shows since 1996. Started my own group in 1999 around the time I was kicked outta school. Built our own website and recorded our music on the computer. Pushed our shit at our schools. 2002 kicked out another school, so I just dropped all together, while having a #1 single on the radio. 2003 dropped released an independent album that sold worldwide, moved to LA. 2004 toured wit popular major artists.2006 signed a major deal. Hit the radio & MTV hard wit my group The A'z. We toured. 2008 the label folded. Now here we are 2009 still grindin'. But to whom much is given, much is tested.

How would you best sum up your sound?

Passionate. I speak what I feel. What i believe in. I stand for what I'd die for. And when the whole world's listening I speak words that get them through. I speak from inside me cause thats where God is. So when i speak from my heart, the world will see just how connected we all really are and how we all relate to each other.

What's the idea behind the album title, "Vampires Eat Roses Alive?"

Aight bust it.. "Vampires" are eternal. We live forever. Cause we are already dead. I feel like we are all vampires. We are all already dead. We are born with the same fate. Thats death. It's lifes only guarantee. What we do with our time while we are here is how we are judged in our after life. "Eat" stems from the philosophy; empty stomachs = empty minds & souls. Feed the body, feed the mind & soul. so as Vampires we feed off life. To fill our minds and soul with life. "Roses" symbolize life. Even before a rose blossoms. Before the seeds are planted, you know its gonna grow to be beautiful. Once it's petals fall and it dries up, you know it was once beautiful. I say "Alive" cause I lost alot of my niggas over stupid shit. Shit that wouldnt happened if we value being alive. Even when it's hopeless and we have nothing, we have life. Everyday is an opportunity. Thats"Vampires Eat Roses Alive".

Are you working on any projects right now?

Other than the album "Vampires Eat Roses Alive". Me and Aris Jerome been workin' close on the movie "Vampires Eat Roses Alive". It's like a "hip hop Thriller". He's destined for greatness so it's only right we do somethin new and legendary. We just shot "It Rains Roses" & "We Own The Night". We shoot the next 2 videos in July. I been in the studio heavy. Everyone who knows me, knows that the studio is my cave. I'm workin on the mixtape "Heaven's Saint From Hell; Alexander". While startin on "V.E.R.A.2" Shit's finna get crazy. Watch me!

Where do you get your pen game from? What stories do you tell in your writing?

I stopped writin' rhymes at 16. I feel if its in my heart I shouldn't have to think too much. And if its not in my heart, I shouldn't speak it. I feel that the music behind me is a canvas. My words paint the picture. I tell stories of things i feel, been through, or seen. I speak from the perspective of the less fortunate with an appetite for more.

As an artist what is your ultimate direction? Where do you want to go as a rapper?

My direction is to the top. I ask God to continue to shine through me and put me through whatever he feels I need to see so I can teach and relate. As a rapper I want to affect any pair of ears laid upon my voice. I want to make an impact if not as big, bigger than Jesus and the bible. Cause I feel like its a different time than back then. And though we must remain true to ourselves and a higher power, we also must adapt and survive. If someones feelin' fear, lost, or insecure I want them to need to hear my music, and hopefully my message will help them conquer those negativities and give them hope. Anyone feelin like they've overcame, made it through, and are blessed. I want them to feel like I'm tellin' their story.

What are some future goals & aspirations you have?

My only goal is to live out Gods plans to the fullest... Several albums, a couple movies (true stories). Hopefully by doin that I could buy my mama a crib, do things for my community, fall in love with a queen (a woman as true as me), and have an army of babies. And when I'm gone, I shall leave a blueprint for true success, which is happiness, for anyone who believes in what they feel in their heart to follow.

You're heavily tatted, tell us about your tattoos.

I have a dollar sign on my face to symbolize value, or worth. I value me as others value the dollar bill. I have "I LOVE I" tatted on my throat, cause in order to love anyone you have to love yourself. Also tatted on my face is "AOK". So every time I look in the mirror I know no matter what, everything is "AOK". I have "Faith" tatted on my left hand. I saw the future and I saw there would be a time where I lost my faith and I would need to be reminded without faith is witout life. That tattoo helped me during a very hard time.i have bats on my stomach cause I'm a vampire. I have 7 bats to represent the 7 virtues and the 7 deadly sins. I have a kiss on my neck of my truest love. Sometimes our destiny takes us away from the people and things we love most. I have faith, if it's to be it will be. Even if its not to be for now. (Shout out to Alexandra Ann. I love you.) I have "Fighter & Provider" tatted on my right hand to remember its all worth it. The ups and downs. I fight to provide. The tiger stripes covering my right arm just grew in. Nah i'm playin. I was born 1986 year of the tiger. Its meaning "natural born leader" describes me well. Those are a few of my favorite tattoos.

THE GRIND:
How'd you get into filming music videos?:

I've always been creative growing up. Always down to try new things. I love art and just creating a visual that can grab peoples' attention. I used to make beats so that's how I really got into editing. So one day I just bought a camera and basically tried it out.

As a director / filmer, what is it that you like to capture about the artist & song?:

I try to give the viewers a visual of what the artist is really saying in the song. Me and the artist(s) get together and try to get into details so the people can truly understand what the song is about. I hate watching music videos that really have nothing to do with the lyrics.

Describe what it's like to be on one of your sets:

Im kind of a freelance videographer so we use what we can to make the film. What a lot of people don't know is that I used a nikon d90 for most of my films. Its a little SLR camera so a lot of people around would think Im doing a photo shoot at first. Its funny because people don't expect the footage to turn out like it does.

I was really looking forward to summer & all I get is the same bullshit I suffered through winter with: Lack of energy, feeling sad / moody / irritable / anxious, gaining weight because I crave sweets & carbs, oversleeping, feeling drowsy throughout the day, social withdrawal, losing interest in things I used to enjoy, shitty appetite, hopelessness, depression, insomnia, & having a hard time concentrating & processing info. The worst part about all these symptoms = having them interfere with my daily life. Ugh. No more whining cause I know what's up:

Sometimes I get really bummed on myself for not lurking Craigslist more frequently. There's so much cool shit on there, from random ass people with random ass shit.
